Unwind, Relieve Stress and Stop Overworking

It’s that time – isolated winter is over, yet summer has not completely begun, life can seem ‘in between.’ The days are getting longer, restless feelings are taking over and impatience can settle in. It can be hard to stay focused and happy at work. Just making your days a little more enjoyable can help relieve some of the monotony or boredom. How about having some more fun at your job? Plan a few things to lighten things up a bit. Here are some tips to get you started and start to benefit from some stress relief:

1. Play more: If there is a break room or coffee area, consider adding some toys or games. Even having some balls to throw, or chess, puzzles or scrabble that can be played on breaktime can distress you and get your mind off work for a few minutes.

2. Creativity: Even if there is no common space to share and play games, put little puzzles, mind teasers, or play-dough on your desk. You will be pleasantly surprised at the number of people who will stop by and play with your snow globe or yo-yo. Stress relief balls are also fun to squeeze to relief boredom while you are on the phone.

3.  Who’s Who: Put up a Bristol board on a common area wall. Ask everyone from the boss on down to bring in their baby pictures and post them on the poster. Have everyone write their guesses as to who belongs to the cute little faces. This can be quite a hoot; seeing your boss’s baby picture could remind him/her that everyone was a baby at one time!

4.  Stress-Free Zone: How about setting up a distress space. It doesn’t have to be a huge spot, but just somewhere you can put a couch or lazyboy chair. Perhaps you can even decorate with posters from a travel agent of beaches or resorts. Get some travel magazines to peruse and dream of your next vacation time.

5. Mini-breaks: Make sure you take your breaks and lunch hours. Getting up and away from your desk can give your mind and your body a break from monotony. Take classes or courses during lunchtime. Take a walk outside or at least go sit in the break room for a change of scenery.

6.  After work time: Have something to look forward to during the week. Plan events or activities or even shopping on certain days of the week. Have some rituals that you can enjoy doing that make your days seem more rewarding.

7.  Entertainment: If you have a company TV and DVD player, set it up in a common area and play some old Mr Bean reruns. You don’t need sound and usually the clips are short enough to watch for a few minutes here and there and have a good laugh.

8. Potlucks: Sharing food is a great way to create a more social environment at work. Plan one Friday a month where everyone brings in one dish to share. It can be a nice break, eat interesting food, share recipes, and learn more about your co-workers.

There are lots of ways to make your work environment more fun and less stressful. You can break up the long days with just a few fun activities. Studies have proven that people with more friends and who are more socially active, live longer lives.

So go, have some fun at work and reap the benefits!

  1. I do not even know how I ended up here, but I thought this article was good. I do not know who you are but certainly you are going to a famous blogger if you are not already ;) Many thanks!

An attention-grabbing discussion is worth comment. I believe that it’s best to write extra on this subject, it might not be a taboo topic however generally people are not sufficient to talk on such topics. To the next. Cheers
