Mantra Meditation is the Easy Way to Meditate

meditation-3Small Steps for Big Solutions

Meditation can often be seen as a very intimidating prospect for those who are not already well practiced in this life art. While it is technically one of the easiest forms of relaxation and focus available to our species, the mere idea of sitting in one spot for an extended period of time can make many people want to climb the walls. Many of us are fidgety by nature so trying to concentrate on nothing, as so many people have heard meditation is about, seems like an exercise in tedium and totally boring. However, meditation does not need to be a silent activity nor does it need to drive us nuts trying to do it.

Ease into Meditation with Mantra

Mantra meditation is perhaps one of the quickest and easiest forms of meditation to learn because it is not only effective, it's extremely simple and does not require highly disciplined emotional control in order to get started. In fact, you could start right after you read this article if you like. The reason that it is so simple is because all it requires is a mantra that you repeat over and over.

meditation-treeA mantra can be a phrase or simple sounds. Many people use the sounds 'om' or 'aum' to start out with, but others prefer phrases such as 'love and light' or 'I am deeply at peace'. It's up to you to choose which works better, but the idea behind choosing sounds is that they are easier than phrases to focus on and not mix up. The idea behind selecting short phrases is that by repeating the phrases you focus your subconscious mind on the phrase in order to bring about change in your life.

Find a Private Place to Focus

The mantra style of meditation requires that you say the sounds or phrases aloud so you will want to find a private place to do this in. If you can concentrate on these phrases and say them slowly out loud with your eyes closed you are halfway there. It's recommended that you sit on the floor, using a pillow only if you need to because too relaxing of a position can lead to a nap, which is not the point of meditation. If you can say the sounds in a drawn out way, concentrating on keeping your breathing deep and slow, you will soon be in a relaxed state, focusing purely on the sounds of each syllable.

Mentally, you will experience a clearer mind so that whatever you do next is easier to focus on. Overall, mantra meditation is an excellent way to reduce stress. Open your mind, give it a try, and ease into meditation. The art form does not have to be intimidating and you do not have to jump into it unprepared. Take small steps, get in touch with yourself, and use the power of meditation to benefit your spirit, body, mind, and soul.
