Stay Away from Smoke

Just because you are a non-smoker does not mean that cigarette smoke won't affect you. Do your best to stay away from places like the smoking section at a club, or kick your friends outside when they smoke. Even just being around cigarette smoke in general can increase your risk of a heart attack. The secondhand smoke narrows your arteries over time and can also lead to immediate health concerns. Scientists have noted that being around cigarette smoke for just a few minutes can have the same negative effect as if you were smoking yourself. So brighten up your life by avoiding those situations and focusing on getting clean air and oxygen into your body.

Engage in Short, Strenuous Workouts

All exercise or physical activity is good. Unlike foods and habits, there is often no such thing as a truly bad workout. However, newer studies are proving that short, intense workouts may be more effective than a 45 minute slow jog every morning. Pump your heart and lower your risk of heart disease by engaging in 4 minute bursts of activity in sets of 4. It can also be a lot less stressful than planning a two hour trip to the gym. Take a coffee break and sprint up the stairs at the office for 4 minutes at a time, with 4 minute breaks in between, 4 times. The power of 4 could have your heart pumping and working hard for the rest of the day.

Fall in Love with Fat

Fat does not have to be the devil when it comes to your nutrition plan. What you are after here is monosaturated fat. Eating healthy doses of this fat can lower your bad cholesterol and prevent heart attacks. Some examples of foods that are stacked with monosaturated fats are peanut butter, avocados, salmon and other fatty fish and nuts. Do your best to avoid foods that are filled to the brim with trans or saturated fats.
